I am currently not a chamber member. I am the treasurer for a newly created non-profit organization:
Franklin Township Orchestra Parents Association. We are a start up company here in Somerset, NJ. We have our NJ Non-profit certificate and a FEIN. Our next step is to file for our 5013c federal non-profit status.
We are interested in purchasing Quickbooks software to run our business. As such, I would like to familiarize myself with this software as much as possible to facilitate a smooth transition from my current Excel spreadsheet records to Quickbooks. It is FTOPA’s goal to do the day to day transactions ourselves, and submit our numbers to a CPA for tax return preparation. This will minimize our expense which is very important to us as we are a start up non-profit organization.
I am not a CPA, however I was the former CEO of a small privately held technology company for 15 years. We used an industry specific business software package. My CPA set up the general ledger, and we managed our own AR/AP, bank reconciliation, inventory management and reporting functions internally. Our CPA prepared our financial statements each month, our year end statements and our annual tax returns. In my present capacity as a Mortgage Loan Officer, I am not involved with the day to day banking operations. So I am very rusty as I have not used an accounting software in several years. I have also never set a general ledger up on my own before so I must admit that I am a little intimidated about that aspect! Anything I can learn about the set up and operations of Quickbooks will be very much appreciated and very helpful to my organization.
